Derived from the World Health Organisations’ Global Age Friendly Framework, Age Friendly Ireland is a Local Government led service in Ireland, working with multiple national stakeholders to prepare Ireland’s infrastructure and services for the predicted rapid increase in Ireland’s older population. The shared service centre coordinates 35 local Age Friendly programmes across each local authority area in Ireland. Local Age-friendly programmes work to provide walkable streets, housing and transportation options, access to key services and opportunities for older people to participate in community activities.
Our project goals included:
- A complete redesign of an existing Age Friendly Ireland’s main website and 31 local sites, using age friendly design criteria with focus on accessibility, attractive presentation across devices and browsers, and an intuitive interface for easy access of national and local content.
- Develop a bespoke WordPress theme for the new design and redevelop the website to leverage existing functionality while improving it, developing easily updatable templates, and adding new features as required.
- Appeal to a wide range of target audiences, including older people, housing and health service practitioners, policy makers, local authorities, and NGOs.
- Migrate multiple databases of content, consolidate the 32 mini-sites for each county into new sections, and develop the structure of the new site in close cooperation with the client.
The website’s bespoke design is responsive across mobile and desktop devices. It was developed in WordPress with Roots/Sage as a starting point, pre-processed with Webpack, SCSS, and Blade templates, and leveraging HTML, JavaScript, Rest API, and the latest Bootstrap 5 framework.
We have continued to develop new features and areas for the site and are scheduled to continue to roll out more features.
We engaged Neo-Archaic to create our new Age Friendly Ireland website, and we are very happy with the end result. The redesigned website not only looks great, but is easier to use for both our audience and the team updating the content. They listened to, and provided feedback on, our requirements every step of the way, and provided excellent support throughout. In fact they continue to support us in expanding the functionality of the site to improve it further.
